Daphne
Poodle / Golden Retriever
Adoption on hold for medical reasons
Daphne is a very lucky, very special pup who ended up at BDRA. She is a mini goldendoodle. Her breeder surrendered Daphne to another rescue when she couldn’t be sold. That rescue realized something was wrong. They felt Daphne may be blind, so contacted BDRA.
When Daphne arrived at her BDRA foster home, it was obvious there were other things going on. She circled constantly, was making no progress with potty training, her head shook, her eyes darted side to side.
BDRA sent Daphne to a neurologist and an ophthalmologist. She has been diagnosed with central blindness (her eyes are fine, but they do not get a signal from the brain). She also has nystagmus (her eyes involuntarily jerk back and forth), head tremors, and she constantly circles. Recently Daphne had an MRI, and was diagnosed with severe hydrocephalus.
She is currently on medication to manage her symptoms, and is a much much happier girl. She still circles and has decided potty training is not for her. Her foster mom insists she keeps trying, but she wears a diaper inside.
Everyone who meets Daphne loves her. She could be an ambassador for any person or animal with a disability who lives their best life despite the cards they’ve been dealt. She exudes love. When she runs her non stop circles outside she is so happy! Her ears fly behind her, she’s so fast, and she’s having so much fun she doesn’t want to come inside. She loves treats and cannot wait for her meals. Shake a treat jar, and she finds her way wherever it is.
She’s very very cute, and unlike most goldendoodles, very chill. She is a happy girl who loves cuddles, running her circles outside, and playing with her toys. She wakes her foster mom up everyday by putting her soft little paws up on the bed. She gets pulled into bed and is sooooo happy to lay in her foster mom’s arms.
Daphne will need a quiet home (she loves kids, but a lot of noise stresses her out). She also needs someone who is home most of the day and has the time to spend with her, either cuddling on the couch or playing outside.
Daphne is currently on medical hold, while BDRA and Daphne’s neurologist explore the best medical options to help her.
Daphne is not currently available for adoption for medical reasons.
