Who’s that girl with the golden waves? It’s Winnie! Winnie is a beautiful terrier mix. She’s about 7 years old, and she’s already quite the traveler! Winnie came to BDRA from a shelter in New Mexico, and she charmed hearts all the way from New Mexico to New York!
Winnie loves her people with all that she has. Her perfect day is a day spent with her person, giving cuddles and kisses and getting belly rubs. She tries very hard to be a good girl.
Winnie wants to be with her people at all times. She’ll follow you from room to room, and will lay happily at your feet or in your lap as you work or watch TV. Sometimes she follows me so closely she actually steps on my feet. She can also be timid and submissive, and if she thinks she’s in your way, she will do her best to avoid you.
Winnie has late immature cataracts, but has functional vision at this time. As her vision declines, she may be a candidate for cataract surgery. She receives eye drops every 12 hours and is an angel! She also has Anisocoria, which means her pupils are two different sizes. This does not affect her now, but will need to be regularly monitored. She is housebroken and sleeps quietly through the night.
Winnie can be tolerant of the other dogs (all males) and cats (one male, one female) in her foster home and may even sleep next to one, but more often, she does not like when another dog or cat gets too close to her. She’ll give a warning growl, and if the dog doesn’t move away, she will lunge. It does not escalate further than that. Out of the four male dogs here, there is one dog she likes very much (a blind poodle mix).
Winnie is diabetic and came into rescue underweight. She has since gained several pounds and is even a bit overweight! As she was an untreated diabetic, her diabetes is still being regulated, and so she will remain on medical hold.
Winnie is not currently available for adoption for medical reasons.
