Simon’s Song (Cairns & Cousins Terrier Rescue)
Sometimes when they come to us, we can’t begin to imagine how they got to us in this condition, we can only feel grateful that they are now safe with us and we can give them the help they need.
Our newest boy, little Simon, is a 5 year old Westie type fellow who had been living a quiet, ordinary life with his owner, a life that should have stretched out gently ahead of them. But everything changed when Simon developed severe glaucoma at a young age. And whether his owner was not able to take care of Simon or just didn't see the need to, nothing was done to help him. When his owner finally took an honest look at Simon, he saw the immense destruction of the dog’s eyes that he had ignored.
Unable to cope in any way, his owner took Simon to the veterinarian to be euthanized. The veterinarian was unwilling to put such a young dog to sleep, and he talked the owner into surrendering Simon. Because the doctor knew that with his advanced glaucoma, Simon would need to have both of his eyes removed.
The surgery went well and when Simon got to his foster home, within days his appetite was back in full swing and the wag had come back to his tail.
Things are so much better now for Simon. He can still do almost all the things he could ever do before. But, the best and biggest difference for Simon is that now instead of looking at the hardness of life through the agony of his damaged eyes, he is looking at the
joy of life through the enduring eyes of love.
Now, when Simon meets his new forever family, his true forever family, he can greet them with a sweet song of love in his heart.
“Now, I can take the time
I can see my life
As it comes up shining now
Reaching out to touch you
I can feel so much since I found you
Looking through the eyes of love.”
