Update: 1/28/2026
Kallan had her follow-up appointment today and is doing very well. She now weighs 11.5 pounds, nearly tripling her weight since intake. Her eye pressures measured 18 and 10, which the veterinarian reported as excellent, and she is responding well to her current eye medications. Mild swelling is present but considered normal, and she is showing no signs of pain. She received her distemper/parvo vaccine today and will need one additional booster in four weeks to complete the series. A fecal test for giardia was submitted, with results expected in the coming days. She also received her first doses of heartworm prevention and flea/tick medication, which will be administered after a short waiting period to monitor for any vaccine reaction. The veterinarian assessed her as healthy and progressing appropriately. A follow-up visit is scheduled in four weeks for her final vaccination. At this time, Kallan is stable, comfortable, and continuing to thrive.

Update: 1/18/2026
Kallan has no vision in her left eye and has developed primary glaucomas. She is currently being treated with 2x daily eye drops which are very affordable and she is tolerating it very well. She is expected to eventually need that eye removed if she stops responding to the eye drops in the future. The glaucoma is hereditary and could move to the right eye as well. She is currently normal and happy and still sees shadows in her right eye. Her weight is now 8.7 lbs.

At 8.5 weeks she has the biggest personality, she is playful and LOVES her toys, she is absolutely adorable and so smart. She is potty training really well and loves praise. She is 10000% a lap puppy and was bottle fed so all she wants is to cuddle and be held and kissed.
She is fantastic with the foster mom's two dogs ( although she is too young to really play and interact yet) and shows only gentle interest in cats. She has yet to meet a person she has not loved or a lap she does not want to be in.
Kallan is a typical puppy, curious about everything, playful, and absolutely full of mischief. She doesn't walk...she leaps from place to place exploding with joy... and every adventure is better than the next as far as she is concerned. She has no fear and shows no issues with her limited vision. She does not run into anything and can see well enough to navigate her world perfectly.
Foster home is currently crate training and working on basic commands. She is so smart and only wants to please!!!

Notes: Kallan was diagnosed with eye ulcers at 2 weeks of age... she was successfully treated and no further damage is expected. Her left eye seems to have good peripheral vision and her right eye has "foggy" vision.
Vet Findings: Positive for puppy worms, giardia and coccidia...all being treated successfully. Broken tail (possibly during birth) but fully healed and some vision loss due to eye ulcers. Otherwise a beautiful healthy girl.
